Hello everybody,
During class we are working on finishing our books. Students are very excited about this project and we should complete our books in two more weeks. Students will present their books to the class to get their final grade.

We have started a new unit. Our unit is on "Fairy Tales". During our classes, we have been learning how to re-tell different children's stories in Spanish. So far we have worked with two stories, "Little Red Riding Hood" and "The Three Little Pigs". For our quiz, students will need to know the vocabulary that we have been using for each story and will also need to know how to re-tell these stories in a simple way.

Writing paragraphs

Students now are practicing how to write paragraphs about our cities.
Students need to work with a bank of words:

Students need to be able to incorporate this words and expressions into their paragraphs.

Example of a paragraph:

Mi ciudad se llama La Ciudad Divertida. En mi ciudad hay muchas personas y parques muy grandes. Todos los días las personas caminan en el parque. El parque tiene muchos áboles y en la ciudad tenemos teatros y cines, es por eso que, mi ciudad es muy divertida. Las personas van a la piscina a nadar. Ellos pueden jugar muchos juegos divertidos.
Los niños son muy inteligentes porque la escuela está en el centro de la ciudad. Todos los niños van a la escuela. Es la escuela más grande del mundo.
Cuando las personas van a el supermercado no necesitan dinero.

My city is called the Fun City. In my city there are many people and very big parks. Everyday people walk in the park. The park has many trees and in the city we have theater and movie theater, that is why my city is fun. The people go to the pool to swim. They can play many fun games.

The kids are very smart because the school is in the center of the city. Every kid goes to school. The school is the biggest in the world.

When the people go to the supermarket they don't need money.

To conjugate verbs in Spanish we need to change the ending of the verb ar-er-ir to the different endings below:
ar - er - ir
o - o - o = for I= Yo
as - es - es = for You= Tú
a - e - e = for He or She= Él / Ella
amos- emos- imos= for we= Nosotros
an - en - en = for They= Ellos

Example:
Caminar= camino, caminas, camina, caminamos, caminan.
Correr= corro, corres, corre, corremos, corren.
Vivir= vivo, vive, vives, vivimos, viven.

Hello everybody,
We will have our Spanish quiz next Monday and Tuesday. Students can take their notebook home to review the material that will be part of the quiz.
Remember that you will need to be able to write your paragraph in Spanish about the food Pyramid.

Preparar, (to prepare) revolver, (to stir) comprar, (to buy) lavar, (to wash) poner (to put).

Food Nouns:
Las Galletas (cookies)
Las papas fritas (french fries)
La hamburguesa (hamburger)
El pollo frito (fried Chicken)
El pan tostado (toast)
La mantequilla (butter)
El helado (ice cream)
El queso (cheese)
Las tortillas (tortillas)

Creating sentences using Rico(yummy) , bueno(good), sabroso(tasty), delicioso(delicious):
To create sentences using these words, you need to use the "to be" verb:
Es/está (for singular nouns)
son/están (for plural nouns)

Example:
The toast is delicious (El pan tostado es delicioso)
The fried chicken is tasty (el pollo frito es sabroso)
The french fries are good (Las papas fritas son deliciosas)

Remember: you will use es (singular)or son (plural) when you are talking about the food in general, "las uvas son deliciosas" (Grapes are delicious).
When you are actually eating the food and you want to say that this specific food is good or delicious you will need to use Está (singular) or están (plural) "Las uvas están deliciosas". (these grapes are delicious).

Verbo Gustar "To like" and Indirect Objects

There is a group of verbs that are most frequently used with indirect objects. The most common is gustar, which is the equivalent of to like, but functions very differently. In the English sentence "I like the book", “I” is the subject and the book the object. In Me gusta el libro , the book is the subject of the sentence and me the indirect object. It is as if you were to say in English "The book is pleasing to me".

Today In class we learned the Indirect Objects

yo (I)= me
tú (you)= te
él/ella (he/she)= le
nosotros (we)= nos
ellos (they)= les

With this indirect objects we can create sentences like:
I like the book= Me gusta el libro.
We like the book= Nos gusta el libro.
they like the book= Les gusta el libro.

To make negative sentences you only need to add a "no" in front of the sentence:
I don't like the book= No me gusta el libro.
He does not like the book= No le gusta el libro.
You don't like the book= No te gusta el libro.

When the noun in the sentence is plural (more than one) you will need to add an "N" at the end of gusta and it becomes gustan:
I like the books= Me gustan los libros.
We do ot like the book= No me gustan los libros.

Also this week we are reviewing and learning some nouns related to drinks and food:
Juice: El Jugo
Apple juice: El Jugo de manzana
Orange Juice: El Jugo de naranja
Grape Juice: El Jugo de uvas
Grapefruit juice: El Jugo de toronja
Milk: La leche
Water: El Agua
Soda: El refresco
Limonade: La limonada

It is important to use the Article (el,la,las,los) in front of your nouns.

Review at home:
a. Indirect objects: me, te, le, nos, les
b. Write sentences in Spanish with the verb gustar "to like" And some of the drink and food nouns. (I like orange juice=me gusta el jugo de naranja)
c. Review and learn the list of nouns related to drinks and food.
